Yay for cloth diapers!

I love cloth diapers. Yes, they save you money and don't sit in landfills for 500 years but I really love them because they are cute! Everything else is an added bonus! We were using pre folds but I really didn't like the way they fit Sawyer, so I've been buying fitted diapers. They fit him so great and they are one sized so baby Stella can fit them too after the newborn stage! Those are just of the new diapers we have gotten!

Woolies are one of the reasons I love cloth diapers. Being a knitter, I can make beautiful soakers and longies myself! So lately I've been on soaker kick. I knit 4 of them so far. Two for each kid.
This is a large soaker for my little man. I used scraps for it, Knit Picks WOTA and Cascade 220.

This one is made with Cascade 220 and is a large too.

And this one is a small for Stella. Knit with my custom yarn from Eco-Wrapz.

I haven't taken pictures of the Stella skirty yet. I think I might need to frog the down of the skirt, it seems like it might be too tight on her tights. But I might wait until she's here and ready to use it. I've haven't knit in a few days since I finished the skirty. I'm waiting on yarn I ordered for shorties for Sawyer! I will have to take action shots of those! Maybe I'll knit a few washclothes or bibs while I'm waiting.

Stash Knitting

I've been trying to knit up some of my stash yarn because I want to order new yarns that I haven't used before. There's two that I have my eye on, Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride worsted weight and Berroco Comfort. I've heard every good things about both and it's time to try something new! Of course I have to get some money first! So that brings me to these projects that I have finish.

First we have a Mermaid Cloche. I used this pattern: Bel Cloche that is a ravelry link. I made a size 6 to 12 mths(small i think). I used the Mermaid yarn I got in my trade. Nice pattern, but my yarn was a little bulky for the lace brim.

I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Tidepool(2 skeins) for this scarf. And the pattern is: Easy Lace Scarf pattern another ravelry link. A very easy pattern! Knits up pretty fast too!

I'm working on a new soaker for Sawyer(my 19 mths old) right now. I'm using up leftover wool yarns in browns for it. I think I have enough blue leftovers to knit another one for him. After that it's back to baby knitting! I'm on knitting her a few small soakers and a sweater for next fall.

Baby Knits and yarn mail

I love knitting baby items with kitchen cotton! I used Sugar n' cream for this shrug. I love the colorways they make. They have so many! I really prefer Peaches N' Cream cotton but I can't find many different colorways in stores here. I think its a little softer than Sugar n' cream cotton. And kitchen cotton is cheap! I mean this shrug cost less than $2 to knit. Plus I have over lefts! The pattern is Confection Baby Shrug, a free download on Ravelry.com. This is the 3 mth size but the pattern goes up 24 mths. I plan on knitting another one in a bigger size in wool for the winter.

Girly Mail
I got all this in the mail on Friday! Some girly yarn love, for sure! This is what I traded the two Curly Purly Soakers for. First is Mermaid, a Cestari yarn; the top is It's a Girl, which is fisherman's wool and the last is Rocker Girl, also fisherman's wool. Plus a matching newborn shirt. I'm so in love with these colorways, they are my first real hand dyed yarns. I think this is going to start a new addiction, good for me but bad for our bank! The woman who died them for me is Amie who owns Eco-Wrapz. She also sells cloth diapers, wipes, and baby clothing! Check out her site here: www.EcoWrapz.com or here at www.hyenacart.com/appleocrhard.

Baby Leggings

My first girly knit! Well, thats not true, I did knit the Cherries hat first but that was before we found out Baby C is a girl.

I used Knit Picks Felici Sock yarn. I used bigger needles than the pattern said to, US 2 and not 1's. I also added a half inch after each of the decreases, one inch total. After they were washed they grew another inch, totally to 9 inches. The pattern was for 0 to 6 months but I think these are more 6 to 9 months, maybe even up to 12 months. She'll need them in the fall more anyways so no big deal! More baby stuff to come in my next post!

It's a Girl

So we went yesterday to our gender ultrasound and found out we are having our first baby girl! We had the boys with us too, Sawyer the youngest didn't have a clue what was going on. But I think Brodie, who is 5; understands about the baby in mommy's belly. I'm so excited! It's funny too because my dh' s parents had two boys and when a girl too.

I've already started knitting a pair of Baby leggings for her too! I'm using Knit Picks Felici in Mixed Berries. Which I have had for a long time now. I was going to sale it or trade it but once I got preggo with this girl, I thought I would keep it around just in case the baby was a girl. Well, that worked out well! I need more girly yarn, I don't have alot, since we have 2 boys and I barely knit anything for myself. Now I just need some money to buy some.

We really don't have a clue on her name yet. But I like Lucy, River and Rory. With the boys we used family names for their middle names. Brodie's middle name is my father-in-laws middle name and Sawyer's is three of our grandfather's names. My mom's middle name is Gail, so we may use that. Or my great grandmother's which is Rose. We still have another 4 or so months to figure it out!

Curly Purly Soakers

I knit these two Curly Purly Soakers for a mama on diaperswapper.com. She dyed that yarn and she sells it too! The yarns are Georiga Peach and Mermaid colorways.

You can find her yarn and cloth diapers here: http://hyenacart.com/theappleorchard/. She is Eco Wrapz. You should check her out!

Anyways, back to the soakers. This is the 6th and 7th time I've used the Curly Purly Soaker pattern and I love it. I used US 3,6, and 8 needles. The soakers are Med - large. It only took me 6 days to knit them, which I think is pretty good! The pictures are taken before they were washed.

Baby News: I'm 19 wks and one day now. I have my gender ultrasound tomorrow at 330! I'm so excited and nervous. I hope Baby C shows us the goods! I'm hoping for a girl! We have 2 boys and thats better than 2 girls, but I still want my little girl!

Number 1

It's the first day of my new blog. Nobody will probably read it but yeah, its here!

I'm Alex, a mother and a knitter! I stay at home with my 2 boys and have one on the way! Due June 23rd! We live in Kentucky and no, we are not rednecks. :) I've been knitting for almost 5 years now. I love wool and cotton! I'm addicted to Ravelry too. I'm Knit~it~Good on there too. I love reading other knitters and crafty people's blogs so I thought why not start my own.

I guess I should start this out with a little knitting. I knit this hat for Baby C(in my belly), just in case it's a girl! I found the pattern on Ravelry. But here is the link: http://littlesesameknits.blogspot.com/2006/12/spur-of-moment-baby-hat.html

We should find out the sex of the baby on Friday, and I will really starting knitting for it! I'm so excited, but the next 4 days are going to be so slow!!!
